Custom Crating
As a full-service packaging provider, Franke’s has helped accommodate their customers’ challenges through designing custom crating solutions to ensure ample protection of our clients’ products during transit. Franke’s has three designs of crating that are uniquely tailored to their customer’s application.
Open Wood Crates:
- This is the most simplistic crate design, ideally the next step up from a pallet approach
- The base pallet is designed per specification with open-walled sides and ends
- Able to add a top lid and ensure packaging design can accommodate stacking for freight optimization
- Less costly than full sheathing, the crate will still provide added protection and ensure product stability during shipment
Closed Wood Crates:
- Provides a fully enclosed solution for maximum protection and stacking efficiency
- Fully customized closed crates, ranging from the smallest boxes, to the largest product requirements
- Often enhanced with further packaging specifications (bracing pieces, foam/protective fillers, and corner posts)
Open or Closed Fastener Free Crates:
- Designed in-house, Franke’s provides fastener free crates for either the open wood design, or fully enclosed crating
- While offering ample protection, the crates are designed so that no fasteners are utilized for securing/assembling
- The benefits of this design include:
- Reduction of safety risk, as no nail gun or stapler needed for final assembly
- Ability for client to place product on the pallet and then assemble the walls rather than lifting and placing inside after construction
- For unloading, the walls can be broken down rather than the final product being pulled directly out of the crate
- Minimizes warehousing requirements for re-use, as crates can be broken down and stacked flat
